Caribbean living, we all deserve a taste

With their glistening blue waters, palm-lined coasts, and opulent resorts, the Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Bahamas are a lovely medley of islands - those old school desktop images that made us dream, right? Despite all their similarities, each island also has a lot of unique characteristics.

While some are established oases with a wide variety of stores, eateries, and hotels, others are undeveloped, rough, and devoid of any modern interference. So how to decide where to go for a romantic getaway? For a family trip? Or one of those treat-yourself breaks you’ve been putting off for far too long? Well, at shoopit, we want to help you decide, so here’s our take on some of of the islands the Caribbean has to offer:

Bermuda *Insert witty sentence about Bermuda shorts here*. Yes, this is where those ubiquitous short pants came into existence. The island itself is a blend of British, American and island culture, which works out pretty beautifully. At the huge Royal Naval Dockyard, you'll find The National Museum of Bermuda's nautical history, combined with contemporary attractions like the interactive Dolphin Quest. This island has something for history and adventure buffs, as well as for those who want something more mellow.

Shoopit hotel recommendation: The St Regis

Nassau (The Bahamas) Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas, and historically it was home to those infamous Pirates of the Caribbean. Home to Paradise Island Cable Beach, among many stunning vistas, you’ll also find the becoming-legendary Atlantis Resort. This resort’s wow factor is for kids and couples alike, from waterparks and aquariums, to stunning swimming pools and beaches, it’s got you covered.

Anguilla Tucked away in the east of the Caribbean, Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory that has maintained its small island charm. Yes, you’ll find luxury resorts on the island, but it’s remained pretty quiet, allowing for much needed R&R. Beach picnics, sunset cruises, sipping rum and birdwatching are as tiring as things get here. Chilled vibe indeed.

Shoopit hotel recommendation: Four Seasons Resort & Residences

Mustique It is said that this island is the only place where Princess Margaret, sister of the late Queen Elizabeth the 2nd, felt like she was the one who was queen. This previously privately owned island is part of the Grenadine Islands and is definitely one of the most beautiful. We’d suggest this one for a more romantic getaway, rather than a trip with smaller children. You’ll feel like royalty on this island, like you’re part of Princess Margaret’s own private sanctuary.

Shoopit hotel recommendation (and the only hotel on the island!): The Cotton House

Barbados Barbados is located right off the Caribbean chain of islands. Encircled by the Caribbean Sea's crystal-clear seas, this well-established holiday destination offers something to interest foodies, explorers, history buffs, and adventurers of all kinds - they also know how to do luxury extremely well - we love it!
